How to Make Crepe Paper Flowers
You're gonna love these, they're my favorite! Don't be confused by the heading, I find crepe paper to be the best paper to use for mexican flowers. Okay for this one we'll need some multi-colored crepe paper, scissors and green pipe cleaners. As always, if you need any of these materials, check out MisterArt.com. If you wish, you could get some perfume and a coloring marker to add a little something to your crepe paper flower.
Instructions
- Take 4 sheets of paper and put them one on top of another.
- Fold all 4 sheets at the same time, starting at the bottom of the sheets and folding your way to the top. Each time you fold, make a 1 inch thick fold. First fold forwards, then backwards, and repeat until the entire thing is folded such that it is only 1 inch tall (6 inches wide).
- Using scissors, round the corners of the 1 inch by 6 inch sheet, such that it resembles a large ice cream stick!
- Fold a pipe cleaner in half - we're gonna use this for the stem. Squeeze your tissue paper stack in the middle so that it looks like a ribbon. Put the pipe cleaner over this middle part and twist the piper cleaner tightly to secure it in place.
- Now it's time to fan out the 'petals' of your flower. Pull your carefully folder tissue paper layers out 1 by one until you think it looks pretty :-). Do this carefully such that you give the flower a 3 dimensional look.
- If you want to, you can bend the pipe cleaner a little just below the flower, so that it resembles a leaf!
- Lastly, spray some of that perfume on if you have some, use your markers to do a little touch up, and it should be ready for display!
